Kitchen before (& Ev) Kitchen After
I know, this isn't something I usually blog about, but I thought you might be interested in seeing the infamous kitchen tile finished. In the spirit of family remodeling (my sister, my parents & jed's parents all have been remodeling their homes) we decided to make our white kitchen a little more up-to-date. We've actually had the tile since Christmas soon after we purchased this home and have been waiting for a time when Jed could be alone at the house and make lots of noise ripping out the old backsplash. When I was away at my parents, Jed got to work and his goal was to finish before I returned.
Once I returned, I was greeted by the new tile. It made all the colors in our house come together. It was beautiful. The only thing Jed had left to do was grout the tile. (The project would have been finished but when Jed ripped the old tile off, he realized he was going to have to replace the drywall. Well, since the drywall was gone, he might as well install under cabinet lighting.) Anyway, the next afternoon we started to grout. At the end of the process, we went back to wipe the grout away. Hmm, nothing was happening. Apparently, with slate tile, you have to seal the tile first, then wipe the grout off immediately before it dries. So, we had one huge cement backsplash.
All this to say, Jed ripped out the entire backsplash down to the studs and started completely over on Thursday and the new tiles look great. Yeah Jed!
